The cooling system is integral to your Mercedes to keep its engine from overheating. The cause of temperature increase in the engine is the burning of fuel in the combustion chambers. When fuel is burned, power is produced, and another by-product is heat which spreads throughout the engine’s body. If this heat is allowed to build up, the temperature will climb so high to the point when some of your auto’s vital parts will already melt, making your vehicle immobile. However, this condition is kept from happening because of the presence of the cooling system which regulates the temperature of the engine, keeping it in an operational level. The major parts of the cooling system are the radiator, water pump, radiator fan, fan shroud, fan clutch, hoses, all working together through the coolant. They operate by circulating the coolant and dissipating the heat that it has gathered. This is a closed circulating system so that the coolant will not be wasted and can be recycled. The radiator fan is connected to the engine through the timing belts, and it would stop from time to time even if the engine continuously rotates. The intermittent spinning of your Mercedes radiator fan is due to the
Mercedes Benz Fan Clutch.
